Industrie 4.0 in the global competitive arena of tomorrow
Industrie 4.0 has an outstanding importance for the future of production industry in Germany. It changes the industrial value creation and enables totally new business models. Thereby new perspectives for Germany as an industrial location opens up.
The ambitious target to become leading market as well as leading supplier raises several questions in this context:
- What is the state of development in leading industrialised countries?
- Will Germany fulfill the requirements to become a leading supplier? Are new suppliers of Industrie 4.0 equipment entering the competitive arena?
- Does Germany have the potential for a leading market in the mid-term perspective? Where are attractive markets for Industrie 4.0 opening?
Answering this kind of questions was the target of the research project INBENZHAP. Based on that, configuration options for the industrial production in Germany and aspects offering opportunities for a German leading role in Industrie 4.0 should be detected. Therefore, in a first work package Germanys global competitive position was determined in a comprehensive benchmark. For this purpose, hypotheses were formulated and assessable criteria to point out the strengths and weaknesses of Germany in the field of Industrie 4.0 were derived. As a sole analysis of the status quo is not adequate, in a second work package the future development of the production industry, its environment as well as relevant technologies were thought ahead. Combined with the international benchmark these future scenarios form the basis for the striven target position of Germany in the field of Industrie 4.0. In a third work package strategic recommendations to reach this target position were developed.
The results of the research project contribute to the successful configuration of the transformational processes which arise from the technology trend “Internet of things, data and services” for the production site Germany. The project provides impulses and decision-making support for the future-oriented configuration of research and development in the context of Industrie 4.0.
